FAST FACTS
WHY DOGS NEED A LOT OF HELP
1. People are so busy with less time to walk and train their dogs.
2. People are afraid to adopt dogs from shelters that have no known
behavior history.
3. There are more available large dogs in Orange County placing large
dogs at risk at municipal shelters.
4. Rental housing restricts the size of the animals in apartments
and condominiums.
5. Apartments are more strictly enforcing a "no pets" rule or "cats only"
rule. There are fewer available homes for dogs.

ZIGGY
We believe the dog is an Aussie Shepherd and
Golden Retriever Mix. Ziggy’s face coloring is that of a Golden
Retriever, but his thick mahogany sable fur on his back resembles the
Aussie shepherd breed.

We have sent a volunteer to feed and play with Ziggy and the volunteer
Lynn says, “Ziggy is puppy-like; very playful, but strong and he loves
squeaky toys.”

Home foreclosures are still
forcing dogs and cats from their homes and into shelters, but some
people still choose to abandon their dogs in the backyard hoping that
they will be rescued.
Community Animal Network was notified about a very matted sixty-five
pound dog named Ziggy living in the back yard of a vacant house by Joe
Moreno, the owner of Soprano’s Italian restaurant in Costa Mesa.

|
We need your help to rescue
Ziggy! If a neighbor notifies the city of an abandoned dog then Ziggy
would be impounded at the county shelter.
The cost of boarding or rescuing back a sick dog from the shelter is not
a wise use of donated funds and it could prohibit his rescue. So please
anyone that has a back yard to please call to help 949-759-3646.

MAGGIE AND
MICKEY FOUND HOMES
Follow Up To Story Below:
Richard and Melinda Savitt of Yorba Linda had seen the pair
of Labs Maggie and Mickey three times published in need of a
new home.
Just a week after one of the family dogs passed from old age
the wife Melinda told her husband Richard that if I see
those two dogs in the paper one more time I am going to
call!
End of story.... Adopted... Community Animal Network
will be continuing to provide the veterinary medical to
treat the dogs breed specific skin conditions and Mickey's
ear canal surgery through the end of June.

DIVORCE FORCES HUSBAND TO GIVE UP DOGS

|

MAGGIE

8 year old Neutered Males
|
|
Maggie the Yellow Labrador
Retriever and Mickey the Black Labrador Retriever are casualties
of divorce. The pair has been living together almost all of their
lives and now they need to find a new home, hopefully, together.
These wonderful eight-year-old
family dogs need someone who can give them lots of time and
attention. Both are very social and love to chase balls. They
would make a great addition to any family. According to Dr.
Matthew Wheaton of Alicia Pet Care Center, Labradors have an
average lifespan of about thirteen years.
Community Animal Network is
preparing the dogs for adoption and supporting their veterinary
medical costs and care. After an examination, Dr. Matthew Wheaton
told Community Animal Network that Maggie's cataracts have caused
her to lose some vision, but she can still see.

The doctor has also
recommended a grain-free diet, which will help the breed-specific
skin condition that has caused irritation to Mickey's ears,
leaving him with a chronic ear infection requiring further
treatment. None of the conditions are life-threatening and can be
managed with medication and proper diet. |
Continued...
Community Animal Network needs your help to
raise the funds to cover the costs amounting to $1754.00
associated with the two dogs' rescue. This includes the exam,
blood panels, and costly but necessary medications to treat their
skin conditions and Mickey’s ear.
C.A.N. will continue to financially support the
vet's plan to flush Mickey’s ear, which will assist in treatment
of his chronic ear
infection. We will be accepting continued donations for their
treatment until the skin and ear treatments achieve results.

White tan and Black
Loves children But is afraid of their moving toys and skateboards.
| Mia is a mellow four
year old, spayed female Yellow Labrador & Whippet mix,
who is outgoing and has loves playing tug-o-war with the
family. She is also a loving couch potato when that’s
what the family is doing. At the dog park, Mia loves
playing with other dogs and at home she has a favorite
toy that distributes treats.
Mia loves children of
all ages, but is afraid of their moving toys such as
remote control cars and skateboards. Mia needs to be

Dog –
Billy
Breed:
Catahoula Mix
Neutered male, 3 1/ 2
years old
Description: White, Black and tan with one blue eye and
one brown

Billy is happy, friendly and outgoing, smart and affectionate, has big
ears, crazy eyes and seems to smile. But, he doesn’t like cats, or
Poodles. Billy is perfect for an active family who will never tire of
playing with him and taking him on walks but he does like to sleep
with you. He likes to play tug of war and will be very persistent in
getting you to throw the ball until you command "No More".

Dog –
Roxy
Breed:
German Shepherd Mix
Female Spayed, 2
years old
Description: Tan and
Black
Roxy is a bit of a Princess, she’s calm and mellow, rarely barks and
is content just sitting next to you and being petted and giving
kisses. Unlike Billy, she would be happy in a quiet adult home as she
takes time to warm up to new people and has a “fearful” demeanor. Roxy,
favors walks and runs with her favorite person over playing fetch or
tug of war like Billy with everyone.

| BEST BREEDS
FOR ALLERGIC DOG-
LOVERS
According to the 1998 AKC allergy
info page the Basenji, Bedlington Terrier, Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested.,
Italian Greyhound, Kerry Blue Terrier, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer, Poodle,
Portuguese Water Dog and the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier are the best
for people that are allergic.
ACHOO! First off,
there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. There are strategies that
can help the afflicted to cope. It's not the fur that allergy sufferers
react to. Although the fur conveys the real offenders, the dander,
the saliva and the urine which in turn carry the canine allergen. The
eye reddening protein can stay aloft in the home or alight on the rugs
and furniture. The AKC recommends that you visit an allergist. Bathe your
dog every week or so (take care not to dry out your dog's skin). Have
an allergy non-sufferer take the pooch outdoors for a good brushing.
A good diet prevents the dog's hair loss and the accompanying dander loss.
Make the bedroom off limits. Cover mattresses and cushions with plastic.
Do what you can to keep surfaces clean. Air filters and purifiers help.
