What It Takes

To Help A Shelter Dog..

                        W I L S O N

                        Pointer Terrier Mix

Neutered Male, 1 1/2 Years Old

Wilson has been a longtime resident of the O.C. Humane Society.

Recently Newport Beach Animal Control officer Valerie Schomberg rescued Wilson from the shelter.

Wilson is young and has an over-active exuberant personality. His mouthy playfulness was being misunderstood at the shelter and was putting him at risk. Wilson is being boarded now, but, it isn’t the same as having a home for the holidays.

Wilson Loves to Play!

Wilson is just a year and a half old and therefore he never tires of chasing a ball, or a Frisbee, or even jumping in the water and swimming either.

Training has helped Wilson contain his youthful exuberance and he is crate trained, too.

“Kind To Canines" Dog Trainer Dan in Newport Beach

Wilson’s adoption comes with a training package and has a 30 day return policy.

Wilson needs a yard to run and play in that brings out his goofy side.

The perfect home for Wilson is with an active individual, or a family that enjoys their backyard.

An experienced family with active dogs is a must.

His liveliness is attributed to his young age and a mix of three very active breeds that need a lot of exercise.

If someone you know would love a dog like Wilson, please refer your friend.

 Call 949-759-3646, or email contact@animalnetwork.org.

Even a temporary foster family with a yard would be wonderful to get Wilson out of a kennel.

See other animals for adoption on the web; www.animalnetwork.org.

KOJI

 KOJI

Flame Point Himalayan or Balinese

Koji's cream coat blushes with orange; typical of a Flame Points' color markings, seeming to make his eyes seem so blue. His breed-look is that of a Himalayan or a Balinese cat which are both basically Siamese heritage.

He is a very beautiful sweet and gentle boy. Koji is 38 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail and weighs 15lbs. He is very smart and can open cabinets and drawers to explore, but quickly learns his manners.

He sits on command for his treats, plays fetch with his fuzzy mice and once he gets to know you he will cuddle, too.

Cats by nature are obligate carnivores and he has been eating canned and a raw diet; a canned food diet at the very least for him as dry food upsets his tummy.

He gets along with other cats, but, should be fine in a household alone if he can get lots of attention.

"Arco"

Big

Bengal Tabby & White

Neutered Male

The first thing many people notice about Arco is his size. He is a big kitten at heart and he likes being the center of attention.

If you love big, affectionate cats you will love Arco! But, he doesn't want any competition for your love. He wants to be the only cat to love you!

Arco, is loving and playful, and has been described as a “manly man’s cat” due to his alpha male mentality.

He loves to take charge of the house and keep watch from his favorite spot at the window. When he isn’t watching the outside world, he loves to play with feather toys and get petted by his caregiver.

Arco is outgoing and friendly with everyone, even with people he has never met.

These little black kittens currently live with three dogs and absolutely love them! They love playing and snuggling with the larger animals and would not have a problem in a home that already has dogs. They share their current home with a three year old, and get along well with kids. They are very playful and sweet, and are friendly with any new visitors. This brother and sister duo enjoys playing with little balls or any other toy for that matter! They are not picky when it comes to toys, and will play with anything you give them.

Tiffany & Macy

Born In New York City

                 One Year Olds

White & Orange Kitties

This playful brother and sister pair would be a perfect addition to any family. They have been visited by young girls and are comfortable around them, so children would not be a problem for these loving kitties. Although they have been living with four dogs since they were only four weeks old, they have never had full contact with them, so it is uncertain how happy they would be in a home with dogs. Macy loves to play with pink thread from his caregiver’s hat all day long, and shows his mischievous side by jumping to turn light switches on and off. Tiffany is a huge fan of wine corks, and will chase them around the house every chance she gets. While both kitties are extremely friendly, Tiffany is especially sweet and flirtatious towards males. Both Tiffany & Macy are happiest when their caregiver gives them their wheat grass plant. They go crazy with happiness even just seeing it! Although they are a bit shy in the beginning, once Tiffany & Macy get accustomed to a new visitor, they follow them around the house and are eager to play and get affection from them.

Ace, Alexander, & Alexa

A Good Choice for Family's with Kids.

Three Siblings

Ace, Alexander, & Alexa

Rescue Story:

The neighbor of a senior woman who was feeding cats called Community Animal  Network explaining that the neighborhood was being over-populated with cats.

Community Animal Network explained about the humanely trapping practice of  TNR; Trap, Neuter and Release. Where the cats are released back to the property where they came from after being altered to help stop the over-population of stray and feral cats when a “Good Samaritan” is feeding them.

Alex, Alexander and Alexa's mom was pregnant when trapped, so the mom was well-cared for indoors while waiting for the babies to be born.

Their momma cat was a skittish stray cat and so the three kittens were handled since birth and bottled fed in addition to nursing with their mom.

Alex, Alexander and Alexa were fortunate not to have born outdoors and wild.

These kittens were raised being handled and sleeping with people and should be good with a family with children.

Keel is quiet and loves to be near her favorite people.

Mushu & Khan

BEST FRIENDS

Named after the Disney characters

The two try to hide under their pillow at the adoption event  because they are afraid of the squawking parrot.

Mushu

Orange and White

Neutered male

Mushu "copy cats" his brother's outgoing social personality, but really, Mushu is quite shy.

If his brother Khan jumps on his caregiver's lap, then so does Mushu!

What Mushu lacks in gregariousness he makes up for with his loud purr when being helped.

Khan

Orange Marble Tabby

Neutered male

Khan is a cheerful kitten, very sure of himself, and the leader. He seeks out affection, even if he has to climb a pant leg to get it!

Khan also plays with the little older kittens named Happy. the white and orange kitten rescued from the same location.

Brotherly love!

In Memory of Stormy

Born on the 6th of July, Stormy was a brave little fellow. He was born blind and never was able to see. He had severe neurological issues and great difficulty in walking. His mom cat Bee-toe loved and cleaned him for as long as she could. Nature told her that it was best to help the others and though Stormy’s humans stepped up to hand feed him, they made the difficult decision to put Stormy to sleep. Dr. Wexler was as gentle a Vet as could be wished and Stormy passed peacefully in the hands of his humans.Chris and Fred are sad for Stormy,
but
happy for the healthy siblings Orange Roughy, Smudge, Cloud, and Orange Julius and the wonderful mom Bee-Toe.

Jordan, Darling & Scarlett

Black & White Cats

People in Orange County that dial 2-1-1 on their phones will reach a 24 hour referral system for those in need of human services. Community Animal Network was there to help when three kitty’s owner was forced to leave his residence.

The kitties were well-loved by a single man.

Jordan & Darling

Darling and Jordan would be best suited in a home without children or dogs and someone who is available to engage them in interactive play with their toys.

Scarlett

Scarlett has the smallest white mark on her nose. She is the chubbiest out of the three. She is incredibly affectionate and wants to be pet all the time. She will rub up against you often. She can usually be found in the exact same spot so she's usually very easy to find. She is not a good climber and does not climb very much. She is the least graceful and often falls when she tries to climb or jump onto something. She is very shy at first and is easily scared, but gets very excited when being pet. She bonds with others slowly and doesn't like strangers right away.

Scarlett follows you all over the house seeking your attention. Very dog like.

However, Scarlett is slow to adjust to change in a new home but then blossoms with trust and love.

Darling

Darling has a thin white stripe on her nose. She is the only one of the three with all black eye lashes. Darling is the most independent, brave, and the most curious of the three. She doesn't usually have many problems with strangers and she adapts the quickest to changes in her environment. She requires the least amount of attention as she tends to entertain herself. Like the other two cats, she enjoys enjoys being pet and will generally stay in one place for a long time as long as she is being pet. She loves sitting by windows, exploring, and is the most unpredictable and you will often come home to find her laying on her back or in other adorable positions in various parts of the room. She has even been found sitting on top of an open book, as if reading, and surfing the internet on her caregiver's laptop.

She will usually come greet you when you first get home for a minute or two before leaving to go do her own thing. She also likes to sleep in hard to find places and likes to climb high places like tables, bookshelves, etc.

Jordan

Jordan's right eye has been injured prior to rescue.

Never-the-less, she is loveable despite her eyes cloudy appearance.

Jordan has the thickest white stripe on her nose and has all white eyelashes. She is the only cat with white eyelashes. As you know, she has one slightly grey eye but doesn't appear to have any sight problems. She has the longest and prettiest whiskers. Jordan's personality is the most ideal. She is the most relaxed of the three, but also enjoys playing the most. She will greet you when you get home and try to stay near you for as long as you're in the room. Unlike Darling and Scarlett, Jordan chooses to sleep on the bed every night. She will also lay with you on the couch while you watch TV. She will often sit on your lap or attempt to when you're seated in one place for a while. She sleeps a lot and loves to lay around. She seems most likely to get along with any other cats. Unlike the other two, Jordan will generally only cry out when she wants to be pet and has learned the command "Down."

Jordan loves to play the most. String, fishing rods, and wand toys will send her into a frenzy and she can play for a long time. She loves chasing things more than the other two. She really loves toys.

"EVERY" Dog That Is Listed With Us And  Participates In Our Public Adoption Events Has Found A HOME!

Do you need to find your dog a new home?

BENEFITS OF PLACING YOUR DOG THROUGH US

www.animalnetwork.org is working for you 24 hours a day right here in Orange County. Our pet-marketing programs give your dog the best opportunity to be adopted and your participation will avoid the uncertainty of the animal shelter, or being discouraged by rescue groups that are always full.

*Animals will meet interested families or individuals at our weekend adoption events at Now Meet Our Rescue Animals in the Caregivers Home Due To Russo's Pets at Fashion Island Shopping Center Closing. Call 949-759-3646 Shopping Center in Newport Beach.

When a successful pet-match is made we will transfer ownership rights to the new pet-parent.

We have no kennel and therefore you would be required to honor a 30 day return policy to the new pet-parents. This is your dog's protection to confirm your pet is in the right home.

Most returns can be avoided if behaviors and veterinary needs are disclosed ahead of time in writing to us. Making the right pet- match the first time is our goal. For example; if a dog is young and very active we need to find an active family, not someone who is gone all day.

If the animal is returned within 30 days to your custody we continue working for you without charge.

If the animal does not have a microchip we will perform a non-surgical procedure to implant a tiny microchip between the shoulder blades and registered the chip to the new pet-parent after thirty days.* Which confirms the term of the 30 day return policy*

There are no additional charges to you. However, Animal Network receives a placement service fee from the “new” pet parent at the time of placement.

Finally, ALL DOGS (including purebreds) listed with our organization must have proof of current rabies vaccine and by spayed or neutered.  We cannot offer our services without this proof.

We hope this introductory letter is helpful.  Please remember that the best way to increase the odds of finding the right home is to take a multi-faceted approach – contact as many societies as you can, do not rely on just one service.

To learn more about listing your dog with us please go to this page.

SOPHIE
Lhasa Apso
Color: Sable
2 years old

Sophie is a young active spayed 2 year old female Lhasa Apso dog whose family is going through divorce. The family wants Sophie to find a new home that she will be happy in. Maybe a family with kids, or someone that would be home and have the energy to play and enjoy walks.

She loves to run, jump and play with balls and toys and gives lots of kissy licks. Sophie loves to be the center of attention and will bark and jump up and down to get your attention.

Sophie is very social and gets along well with other dogs and likes larger dog breeds, too.

She will respond best to training commands with the encouragement of treats.

She is crate trained and is accustomed to being in the crate at night. She likes to sit on someone’s lap or in the back seat when traveling.

Sophie is very lovable and people compliment her on her teddy bear face and lovable attitude.

Yoda
Shih Tzu
7 Year Old Neutered Male

Yoda is a good quiet dog that loves the company of others.

His family is busy with 2 children and another on the way and can't give him the attention he needs.

He will do well with other calm small breed dogs.

We would also prefer someone that stays at home or works from home to keep Yoda company.

Thank you all for your interest in Dori, but the previous owner decided to keep her.

Dori
Carin Terrier
Female, spayed

Dori loves life, is friendly, enjoys warm summer nights as well as cool winter days, evening walks and will play fetch for as long as you keep tossing her favorite squeaky toy. She loves both outdoors and in. She makes a great jogging partner and helps you keep a steady pace. She gets along with other dogs, but we do not know how she would react to cats.

Caretaker: Lucille Benevento
email: contact@animalnetwork.org

Dori's owner was overwhelmed with life and made a difficult decision to give up her pet, and then found it to be a mistake.

It is always difficult for someone to give up a pet.

FAST FACTS

WHY DOGS NEED A LOT OF HELP

1. People are so busy with less time to walk and train their dogs.

2. People are afraid to adopt dogs from shelters that have no known behavior history.

3. There are more available large dogs in Orange County placing large dogs at risk at municipal shelters.

 4. Rental housing restricts the size of the animals in apartments and condominiums.

5. Apartments are more strictly enforcing a "no pets" rule or "cats only" rule. There are fewer available homes for dogs.

        RULES OF ADOPTION

You must be 21 years of age or older; have proper current identification.

Proof of current residence (drivers license, utility bill confirming your current residence)

Parents must be present if "adult children" still live at home.

Renters: you must be the lease holder (not a roommate) and have a copy of the lease indicating that a pet is welcome and that you have paid any required deposits.

BE PREPARED... a godparent or a nearest relative* who will agree to protect your pet in case one of life's many uncertainties happens to you or your family.  (The Godparent cannot live in the same house.)
*You need the godparent or nearest relative's commitment - Name, Address and Phone Number is Required to protect the animal

Cowboys' Young Owner Ordered Him Put To Sleep!

Veterinary hospital workers love animals. That's why they work there! The staffs' hearts break when they have to call animal control when cats are found in boxes and dogs are tethered to the front door. But, it's even more tragic for the workers when the dogs and cats that they have come to know are ordered to be "put to sleep" by their legal owners. This just happened to Cowboy!

Several hospital workers have known Cowboy since he was a puppy. One veterinary worker already saved Cowboy once by having the owner sign him over to her thinking she could find a rescue to take him. But, the rescues say that they are full and the well-meaning rescuer that has been paying his boarding is having surgery herself on Tuesday morning and is unable to continue to pay for the boarding.

This is urgent! Please email this to all of your contacts!

You may wonder why his owner would order him put to death? The young owner was moving back home with her family and her parents said the 90lb Rhodesian Ridgeback was not welcome!

MELODY
Bull Mastiff & Lab Mix
Female, spayed
Five Years Old

Melody is a super affectionate shelter dog who was saved from euthanasia by a 14-year-old girl and her mom. Her rescuers live in no-pet housing, so they're looking to find a forever home for the life they saved.

Melody loves attention (especially in the form of tummy rubs) and, now safe, needs a loving family to call her own.

Home foreclosures are still forcing dogs and cats from their homes and into shelters, but some people still choose to abandon their dogs in the backyard hoping that they will be rescued.
Community Animal Network was notified about a very matted sixty-five pound dog named Ziggy living in the back yard of a vacant house by Joe Moreno, the owner of Soprano’s Italian restaurant in Costa Mesa.

We need your help to rescue Ziggy! If a neighbor notifies the city of an abandoned dog then Ziggy would be impounded at the county shelter.
The cost of boarding or rescuing back a sick dog from the shelter is not a wise use of donated funds and it could prohibit his rescue. So please anyone that has a back yard to please call to help 949-759-3646.

MAGGIE AND MICKEY FOUND HOMES

Richard and Melinda Savitt of Yorba Linda had seen the pair of Labs Maggie and Mickey three times published in need of a new home.

End of story.... Adopted...

MAGGIE

8 year old Neutered Males

Maggie the Yellow Labrador Retriever and Mickey the Black Labrador Retriever are casualties of divorce. The pair has been living together almost all of their lives and now they need to find a new home, hopefully, together.

These wonderful eight-year-old family dogs need someone who can give them lots of time and attention. Both are very social and love to chase balls. They would make a great addition to any family. According to Dr. Matthew Wheaton of Alicia Pet Care Center, Labradors have an average lifespan of about thirteen years.

Community Animal Network is preparing the dogs for adoption and supporting their veterinary medical costs and care. After an examination, Dr. Matthew Wheaton told Community Animal Network that Maggie's cataracts have caused her to lose some vision, but she can still see.

The doctor has also recommended a grain-free diet, which will help the breed-specific skin condition that has caused irritation to Mickey's ears, leaving him with a chronic ear infection requiring further treatment. None of the conditions are life-threatening and can be managed with medication and proper diet.

Continued...

Community Animal Network needs your help to raise the funds to cover the costs amounting to $1754.00 associated with the two dogs' rescue. This includes the exam, blood panels, and costly but necessary medications to treat their skin conditions and Mickey’s ear.

C.A.N. will continue to financially support the vet's plan to flush Mickey’s ear, which will assist in treatment of his chronic ear infection. We will be accepting continued donations for their treatment until the skin and ear treatments achieve results.

                        Dog – Billy

Breed: Catahoula Mix

     Neutered male,  3 1/ 2 years old

Description: White, Black and tan with one blue eye and one brown

Billy is happy, friendly and outgoing, smart and affectionate, has big ears, crazy eyes and seems to smile. But, he doesn’t like cats, or Poodles. Billy is perfect for an active family who will never tire of playing with him and taking him on walks but he does like to sleep with you. He likes to play tug of war and will be very persistent in getting you to throw the ball until you command "No More".

Roxy

ADOPTED

      Dog – Roxy

Breed: German Shepherd Mix

      Female Spayed,  2 years old

Description: Tan and Black

Roxy is a bit of a Princess, she’s calm and mellow, rarely barks and is content just sitting next to you and being petted and giving kisses. Unlike Billy, she would be happy in a quiet adult home as she takes time to warm up to new people and has a “fearful” demeanor. Roxy, favors walks and runs with her favorite person over playing fetch or tug of war like Billy with everyone.

BEST BREEDS

FOR ALLERGIC DOG- LOVERS

According to the 1998 AKC allergy info page the Basenji, Bedlington Terrier, Bichon Frise, Chinese Crested., Italian Greyhound, Kerry Blue Terrier, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer, Poodle, Portuguese Water Dog and the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier are the best for people that are allergic.

ACHOO! First off, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. There are strategies that can help the afflicted to cope. It's not the fur that allergy sufferers react to. Although the fur conveys the real offenders, the dander, the saliva and the urine which in turn carry the canine allergen. The eye reddening protein can stay aloft in the home or alight on the rugs and furniture. The AKC recommends that you visit an allergist. Bathe your dog every week or so (take care not to dry out your dog's skin). Have an allergy non-sufferer take the pooch outdoors for a good brushing. A good diet prevents the dog's hair loss and the accompanying dander loss. Make the bedroom off limits. Cover mattresses and cushions with plastic. Do what you can to keep surfaces clean. Air filters and purifiers help. Information provided by www.selectSmart.com

Always spay, neuter, microchip, collar and tag your pets.
